Where schools get stuck
There are two ways to get this wrong, and most schools are already doing one of them.
The first mistake
Waiting until you have a policy
Nothing is banned, so everything is permitted. Staff use what they find, on personal accounts, and the school learns what was in use when something goes wrong. The policy arrives eighteen months after the behaviour it was meant to shape.
The second mistake
Buying the tool first
A department finds something that marks books, it works, and it is three terms deep before anyone asks what happens to the pupil data. By then the answer is uncomfortable and the tool is load-bearing.
Both grow from the same root. Nobody in the building can point to the line, so four hundred people quietly invent their own. Drawing it once takes a term.
